Nowhere on the cover of the book did it say The True Story of a Wild Moose. For a moment, Mr. Breton and the moose thought that maybe it wasn't the blue moose's book. They thought that maybe it was some other book—but there on the back of the book was the picture of the moose wearing his eyeglasses and smoking his pipe.

The moose roared. It was a terrible roar. It broke fifteen plates, two windows, and a cast-iron frying pan. “This is not my book!” the moose shouted. “There is no moosegirl in my book! There is no love story in my book! They changed everything! They said they were going to fix it up here and there—and they've changed everything!” Then the blue moose roared again, causing the paint to peel off the ceiling, and curdling twenty-six quarts of milk in the icebox—and rushed out of the kitchen, out of the restaurant, and out of sight.
