then, necessarily, all Greeks are mortal.

This argument remains valid however much extra information you add to, say, the first premiss. If all human beings are mortal and there is an outbreak of plague in Nicaragua and my aunt thinks I am a heroin addict … and so on, then necessarily if all Greeks are human beings, they are mortal. Regardless.

Things are very different, though, with the deliberative inquisitio, the search for suitable means. If we add further information to the premisses of such a syllogism we might get:
