Knock! Knock!

“Argh!” cried Squirrel. He jumped in shock and a giant squirt of icing shot out. It hit the cake and dribbled down messily.

“Oh no!” gasped Squirrel, dashing off to answer the door.

Mouse stood on the doorstep. “Hello,” he said, smiling. “Come and blow up these balloons for the party!”

“But—”

“I’ve saved all the red ones for you!” Mouse said. Red balloons were Squirrel’s favourite.

“I can’t!” said Squirrel.

“Why can’t you?” frowned Mouse. “What have you been doing all afternoon? We’ve missed you!”

Squirrel shook his head. He’d missed them, too. But he had to sort out the cake. Now that his friends were upset with him, it was more important than ever that their cake looked magnificent!

“Mouse, I’m really sorry!” Squirrel said. He shut the door and rushed back to the cake. But no matter how many swirls and cherries he added, it was just no good. It looked like a wonky mountain splattered in snow.

Squirrel peeped through the window to see a big silver moon rising in the sky. It was getting dark. And that meant it was time for the Sparkle Party. But what would his friends say when they saw their surprise?
