Houston restaurateur Steve Zimmerman, owner of the upscale La Colombe d’Or, pegged the price of his four-course lunch to the price of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate and called it the “C’est la Vie Oil Barrel Special.” The regularly priced $35 meal became a bargain by April 1986. Newsweek reported, “Zimmerman isn’t making money, but he’s having fun. Energy Bankers have forgotten what fun is. They are spending most of their time writing off bad loans and fending off rumors about mergers with big money-center banks.”628
