Chapter Twelve
Kingdom Of Aquaria
My eyes drifted open, and I had no idea where I was. It was bright, and the air smelled different. My head lolled to the side, looking at a wide-open room with lavish furnishings in blue and silver. Sea shells in many sizes and shapes adorned a table, while the floor was a material that was the same color as sand.
Aquaria.
I shot up, my brain whirling.
âSheâs awake,â a youthful female voice declared.
Blinking a few times, a pretty girl came into focus. She looked no older than ten with long, bluish-silver hair, and the same lambent ice-blue eyes as Kai.
âPrincess Calla. Youâre awake,â she chimed, stepping to the side of my bed and curtseying.
I smiled and stretched my achy arms over my head. âYou must be Kaiâs sister.â
âI am.â A smile lit up on her dainty, pale face. âHow did you know?â
âHe told me all about you.â My voice was gravelly, and my entire body throbbed. Why? How long had I been sleeping? I slid my legs to the side of the bed and tried to stand, but they were too weak and unsteady.
âBe careful,â she stated. âYouâre probably weak because youâve been asleep for five days.â
What?
Sabine entered the room and quickly shuffled toward me, accompanied by Thalia.
âPraise the goddess,â Sabine exhaled, taking my hands. âWe thought youâd never wake up.â
I rubbed my aching temples. âWas I really asleep for five days?â
Thalia plopped into an armchair nearby. âYou were, but after that display of power, it doesnât surprise me.â She shook her head. âThrough tales, I have only learned of one Incendian royal who was given wings by the goddess. I never dreamed I would witness such an incredible sight. You were amazing,â she said.
âYou really were, Calla.â Sabine patted my hand, an expression of wonder in her eyes.
I rubbed my temples. âI canât believe the queen. How could she hate me so much to call the freaking devil himself?â
âItâs not hard to believe,â Thalia said. âShe hated you the moment you walked into the throne room and presented her your marks. Couldnât you see it?â
âI could,â I sighed. âI just wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.â
Kai and Markus entered the room next.
My eyes instantly looked past them, but Trystan wasnât there. Maybe he decided to go back to Carpathia with his cadre.
âDonât worry. Prince Trystan is still here with his men.â Kai said with a grin. âIâve already sent someone to tell them youâre up.â
Kai made his way over to me and I almost didnât recognize him. His hair was drawn back at the nape of his neck. He was wearing long black slacks with a long white tunic embellished with blue and silver gems with Aquariaâs crest on the front.
He held up both hands as he neared me. âI know what youâre thinking. Donât judge me. My parents make it mandatory that I dress the part when Iâm home.â
I smirked. âYou look . . . well, you look like a prince.â
He crossed his arms over his chest and grunted.
