She tossed the empty beer bottles into the box and went downstairs to throw it away. Carolina was outside, puffing on yet another cigarette, her eyes glued to her smartphone. She looked up and smiled at her as she passed. Back up in the empty apartment, Emily pulled open the fridge door and took out the two remaining lonely beers, and then went back outside and down the stairs to the parking lot.
