Chapter Twenty Five

The wedding was lovely and Leila thought Rayshon was happier to see Devon finally married to Christa than anyone. They were at the reception and Ray’s cell phone went off and when he looked at his phone it was Karen so he hit ignore. Two minutes later she called again and he hit ignore again. After five call attempts she sent him a text message saying she needed to talk to him urgently and he deleted it.

“Who is that baby,” Leila asked because his phone kept going off.

“I don’t recognize the number,” he said lying.

“Maybe it’s someone who got a business card or something,” she said.

“Yeah, maybe,” he said and put the phone back in his pocket.

“Maybe you should take the call,” she said and he didn’t want to.

“Naw,” he said reaching in his pocket again to see what she texted him that time and when he read it he almost passed out. “Maybe I should take this babe,” he said getting up. “I’ll be back in a sec,” he said and rushed to the door.

He hit the sidebar on his phone again and made sure he read it right. “I’m pregnant and we need to talk,” is what it read and Ray thought he would have a damn heart attack right there on the street. His mind was racing and he couldn’t focus. It had been a month since he saw her and he could not believe his eyes. He just paced wondering if he should call or text. He was so nervous he began to sweat although he was outside in the dead of winter with no coat. “What in the fuck am I gonna do?” he said out loud and was scared to go back inside. How was he going to play it cool when she just dropped this on him in a damn text message?

His phone went off again and he thought it was her, but it was Leila asking him was everything okay, so he hurried back inside.

“Is everything okay babe, you’re sweating?”

“Yeah, it’s just I ran down to the truck because it looked like the dome light was on and sure enough RJ’s door wasn’t closed all the way,” he said coming up with something quick.

“Yea he isn’t strong enough to close the doors well,” she said and smiled a beautiful smile at her husband and he felt like shit. He should have told Leila the whole truth from the start and maybe she would spare his life. He knew she was going to kill him for real now. He was afraid to death. Maybe she doesn’t want to keep it, he thought, but he knew Karen and Karen is going to want to keep it and want him to be involved and he needed some air.

“Baby let’s dance,” Leila said and she and Ray hit the floor. He tried to carry on the rest of the night as if Karen never revealed her secret to him. He was so deep in
