Cephalometric projections: These radiographs show particular slices of the whole head and are used primarily for understanding growth and development in orthodontics.

Computed tomography: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is becoming an increasingly common tool in dental diagnostics. CBCT images lack the distortion associated with panoramic radiographs and give dentists the ability to analyze images in three dimensions. These images are most commonly used for dental implant treatment planning, orthodontic case management, and endodontic evaluation (Fig. 4.58).
