Running Wolf

He should have known a bounty such as hers was destined to produce scavengers. This was living proof why a man like Running Wolf shouldn’t have allowed himself to become distracted by the brown-skinned beauty. The moment he stared into her sultry eyes he knew she was trouble. She wasn’t for him, yet he found himself attracted to her anyway. Maybe it was the vulnerability she’d displayed at the hacienda. He wasn’t expecting to actually like her. Why didn’t she try for his guns during her feeble escape attempt? I should have never kissed the woman and kept it strictly professional. “Spencer, what brings you out to these parts?” Running Wolf knew he’d made a drastic error placing their camp so close to the red desert rocks, but to say that he was heavily distracted was being kind. He had no justifiable excuse, because he’d been doing this job for too long to make a careless mistake like this. He waited for the man as he stepped down from behind a formation of boulders, serving to conceal his burly form from view. Spencer’s hat was cocked to the side, barely covering his baldhead. He observed the man he’d partnered with in the past, vowing never to work with another hunter again after the experience. Just thinking about it left a foul taste in his mouth. “Spencer, we can come to some sort of agreement.” He stalled for time as Dusky Rose reluctantly cut through some shrubs, ducking her head down low.

“I’m sorry it has to be this way, however I’m going to need you to hand over that darkie.” Spencer stood further out into the open, daring him to make a move.

“I’m not trying to kill you, and certainly not over a prisoner.” Those words hit home. It was easier to take a life when feeling threatened, even better with a reliable witness present, especially when dealing with the white man’s law. Running Wolf happened to enjoy his neck firmly attached to his shoulders.

“That’s nice to hear.” Spencer inched forward until he was only a few feet away, before charging at Running Wolf—taking his legs right from underneath him.

They traded blows, fist for fist. Flesh pounding against flesh. Neither stopping...

Spencer’s jaw felt harder than a brick wall, but Running Wolf’s persistence was enough for him to have a brief advantage which he
