XMAS Scan

These are scans that have been designed for manipulating the PSH, FIN and URG flags of a TCP header. It normally sets these flags leaving the packet lighting in the form of a Christmas tree. Once the source has sent a PSH, FIN or URG packet to the destination, it discards the packet and no reply is sent back to the source.

All Linux machines support the XMAS scan but it is not applicable to the latest versions of the Windows operating system:

Nmap -sX -p 22 192.168.0.1

The above shows that the port is ow closed, that is, port 22. After capturing the network traffic for the xmas scan, you will obtain a combination of the three scans, that is, PSH, FIN and URG. The data length will be 40 while the TTL (Time To Live) will be below 64.
