I used the term “warmark” for the emblem that angel wings make when they’re pressed tightly against an angel’s back. It’s like a shield or a banner in medieval times of whose army you belong to.

The issue was, no one agreed on how to spell it. Internet, dictionaries, me, my editor. . . “Warmark” or “war mark” or “war-mark.” So we had to pick one and stick with it. The trouble was, I kept forgetting which one we chose.

In every novel, I had to go to the spreadsheet and double-check how we decided to spell it. And each time I had to do a global-find-replace and clean it up.
