NINETEEN
KINK LIVED UP TO ITS name. The sex club was a rabbit warren of sexual deviancy. Its smaller rooms featured glass cases for private (but viewable) fucking and racks for public restraint. A large open space housed a bar and tables, poles, and more surfaces at more angles than an obstacle course.
Then there were the aerial silks, dozens of red streamers flowing from the high ceiling to the floor, creating an erotic Cirque du Soleil kind of display.
In her catsuit, Talia was (literally) overdressed, but the tight black leather could pass for sexy despite its intended functionality.
Shaded and keeping to the shadows, Talia roamed the club, hunting for any sign of the Order. After her interview with Anton, sheâd checked her safe house and found what sheâd missed before: the camera. She seethed at the knowledge that someone had spied on herâand that sheâd failed to realize it. So far from the Order house, seemingly alone in Portage, she hadnât suspected a thing.
Sheâd left the camera, had even tried to mask the fact that sheâd noticed, but whoever was watching had probably seen through her Iâm-just-here-to-tidy-up routine. She couldnât return to the safe house, that was for sure. She couldnât use any Order safe house until she knew who was spying on her and why.
Not just spying. Someone had betrayed her.
Someone had tried to get her killed.
Kink was the contact point for this job. Before tonightâs drop in at Antonâs warehouse hidey hole, sheâd met him here to discuss the contract. Anyone turning on her would be working all sides. They would come here to gather intel on Antonâand on her.
At least, thatâs what she would do.
So sheâd make her rounds of the club, then sheâd let herself into the security room and take a look at the video feeds.
âAretalia.â
The voice froze her blood.
Slowly, she turned to see the familiar face, familiar on so many levels. A handsome face with Lucaâs burnished skin tone and perfect jawline. But the eyes were different, dark where Lucaâs were amber, cold and empty where Lucaâs only pretended to be.
Same height, similar built. But the father had a deadly stillness that even Luca could not matchâand thank Idaios for that.
It had taken Talia years to understand that Luca had tried to save her that night when she came to the Order drenched in the blood of her family, when he had tried to prevent her admittance into their dark company. She had resented him, nearly hated him for it. At the time, she had been so filled with pain and vengeance that she hadnât been able to imagine herself, her life, beyond that moment.
Luca had. And he had wanted to spare her, to protect her. From what he knew her future would be. From the Orderâs twisting of her very self. From his father.
âMaster Yannek.â
She bowed to him, an abbreviated bow due to the public setting. In the Orderâs house, she would have been on her knees with her forehead on the floor.
He made a slight gesture toward the bar, and Talia dipped her chin and preceded him.
