Chapter 14

Tonight is our first football game, and I am so fucking ready to kick some ass. We play Harrisburg which is a huge rival of our school, and the energy at this game should be intense. The dance team is set to perform before the game since it is at home. Carter was all keyed up this morning about her performance and the dance since she choreographed the whole thing. I can’t wait to see it, but I am also feeling a lot of adrenaline about my game. College scouts will already be here tonight, and they will be following most of, if not all, my games this season. This is the start of me making my goal of playing college ball become a reality.

The pressure is on me to perform at a high level for my team and me. I don’t want to just depend on my trust fund in life, but I want to carve out a future worth being proud of. Being with a girl like Carter, who is such a great athlete herself, I want to give it my best. This is the start of what kind of future I can give her, and I want it to be fucking fantastic. I know she’s not with me because I know how to throw a football or because of how I look. I know that we would always want to be in each other’s lives, but when you have the most adorable girl possible, you want to give her everything in life. That’s what I want to do. Give my girl every reason to be proud and more good things than she can possibly handle.

With all these thoughts in my head, I feel wound too tight. I head to lunch and see Carter already in line talking to that shithead, Tanner. She feels bad for him and has asked me to at least be semi-friendly with him so that he can make other friends on the team. I try to listen to her and say hey when I see him around, but I still don’t trust him at all. He wants her, and not like all the other guys at our school. I can tell he wants her in a much more desperate way. She feels bad for him though and will not listen to me argue about it. So I just stick as close as I can at all the parties, and I keep a very close eye on him at all times. Even now as I watch him, I can tell that he is as close to her as he can possibly get without her noticing. Anytime he even has a chance to get her attention he takes it. Even when he is talking to other people, his eyes follow her.

I walk up to her now in the lunch line and squeeze in between them. I manage to give Tanner a nod and then turn my back to him. “Hey baby, I missed you.” I say and lean down to take a deep kiss.
