“It’s after midnight,” I whisper next to her ear. “Are you hungry?”

“You fed me dinner, but I’m starving. You’ve wrecked me, and I don’t think I’m capable of walking.” She rolls to face me, pressing a soft kiss on my lips.

“You have no idea of the wreckage you’ve caused me.” My heart is in shreds thinking she’ll return home, and I won’t see her again. “I’ll have my staff bring us a plate of desserts for you to choose from.”

“No, no, it’s okay.” She sits and winces. “I’d like to get some fresh air.”

“I could always carry you in my arms.”

“That would be a bit overdramatic.” She laughs and flinches. “On second thought…” She smiles at me over her shoulder.

“With that mischievous smile of yours, if you don’t get your delectable ass out of bed, I’ll cuff you again.”

She clambers to her feet and tosses her dress over her shoulders, then blows a strand of hair from her eyes. “This will have to do.”

I begrudgingly crawl out of bed. My only motivator is that I’m hungry for food. While I tug on a pair of jeans, I call my waitstaff, waking them up to prepare a tray.

“I feel terrible. We could have just raided the fridge ourselves.” She stares at my bare chest.

“They are highly paid to be at my beck and call.”

“Are you going to put a shirt on?” She swipes her tongue over her bottom lip.

“If your hair can be that much of a mess, then there shouldn’t be an issue with me not wearing a shirt.” I chuckle.

She runs over to the mirror, leans her head to the side, and brushes it with her fingers. I walk up behind her and slap her in the ass. “I’m still not wearing a shirt.” I take her hand and walk out of the cabin to the upper deck, where one of my employees is turning on the gas firepit and has already brought out a bottle of wine.

“I’m parched. I could really use a glass of water.” Noa snuggles into my side as if she belongs there.

“Bring two glasses of water with our dessert,” I tell him. The chair scrapes the wooden deck when I pull hers next to mine, not wanting to have any distance between us.

“May I ask you something?” She sits.

“After the trust you just showed me, you can ask me anything.”

“Why are you so guarded with your past?”

“I said you could ask. I didn’t say I’d answer.”

“Alright, let’s play a game. I’ll tell you something personal, and then you share with me. I’ll even go first.” She lays her hands in her lap, and her shoulders rise with her inhale. “I just found out my husband had an affair.”

I shift in my seat and take her hand in mine. “I’m sorry.”

“Your turn,” she says unblinkingly.

“Wait…can’t we discuss your feelings about it. I mean, it has to be difficult because you can’t even confront him with what you know.”

“That’s probably a good thing,” she scoffs.

“How did you find out?”

“I visited the place we shared, and I found a notebook in his handwriting.
