Did You Know?
After a cold dive, itâs important to replenish the nutrients in your body with a high-calorie meal. Rhianâs favorite is a bacon sandwich and cookies!
When he reached the surface of the water, he didnât think he could risk swimming to the boat alone in the choppy waters. So he found something to hold on to. He had been searching for them, too. He had been just as worried and panicked as they were!
Rhian thought about the dive. It had certainly been dangerous. But during the worst moments, she and her teammates had remembered their training. They had looked out for one another and kept each other safe.
Rhian also thought about the corals. Her team had succeeded in their mission. They found the netted corals and collected the sensors. They left behind new tags for new data. She knew this information would be important to their research.
âThe more we learn, the more weâre realizing just how important deep-sea ecosystems are to life up here on land,â she explains. Finding ways to protect these ecosystems has become her goal.
âEverything we do on land is connected to the ocean and is connected to the atmosphere,â Rhian says. âWeâre all in this together, so we all have to change the way we treat this planet of ours.â So, yes, the dive was dangerous. It left the team shaken. But it was worth it.
