On average, a

new species of

dinosaur is found

every other

week!

Birds are dinosaurs!

Some dinosaurs, such as Microraptor (MAI-kroh-

rap-tor), could fly, but they weren’t birds. All

non-bird dinosaurs died out when the asteroid

hit. However, one group of smaller, feathered

dinosaurs sur vived, and they are today’s birds.

Microraptor

Microraptor

Dinosaurs had very

long hip bones. They

came in two different

shapes: one bird-like

and one lizard-like.

Most dinosaurs had

a long tail to balance

their body weight.

Sinosauropteryx was the first

non-bird dinosaur disco ve red

with feathers. We even know

that it was red and white

with a stripy tail.
