The frieze, erected in 1935 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt while Charles Evans was the chief justice, is a symbol of the Supreme Court’s respect and admiration for the teachings of the Prophet and the Qur’an. “Unfortunately, the brutal and often biased implementation of criminal law in some Muslim countries has given sharia a bad name” (Mujahid, n.d.).

The fact of the matter is that there is no meaningful Muslim support for a sharia takeover in the United States. American Muslims do not want sharia to supersede the U.S. Constitution, and not a single national Islamic organization is calling for the implementation of foreign law in the country (Saylor, 2014). As the Jewish Anti-Defamation League stated in 2012 while responding to an anti-sharia bill proposed in Florida, “[there] simply is no documentation or unconstitutional application of foreign law in our judicial system” (Saylor, 2014).
