âSure, one second,â she said. Pulling out her phone, she began to type and search until she finally found the email. With the press of a few buttons she had it forwarded. âThere, itâs been sent.â
âThank you,â Brigid said. âAnyone else? If that guyâs a couple hours away, I think thatâs a pretty solid alibi.â
âRight?â Mia chuckled. âWell, there was someone else with our company who wasnât too thrilled with her, but he hasnât done anything but grumble behind her back.â
âAnd heâs here on the trip?â Brigid asked.
Mia nodded. âEveryone is here. I mean, who would turn down a free vacation?â
âYou have a point,â Brigid said with a faint smile. âWho is he?â
âPeter Santorini. Heâs one of our interns,â Mia explained.
âAnd what was his problem with your boss?â Brigid asked as she wrote down his name.
âHe apparently referred a new client to Modern Marketing with the hopes it would help him get on their marketing team. But Amelia shot him down. Heâs been pretty upset about it.â Mia was quiet for a moment and then she gasped. âDo you think he did it?â
âIt seems like a pretty flimsy reason for murder,â Brigid said. âBut then again, thereâs no telling what happened, which is why weâre looking into all the possibilities.â
âOkay, sorry. Iâm just so upset Iâm not thinking clearly,â Mia said, her chin trembling slightly.
âThatâs completely understandable,â Brigid said compassionately. âIâm sure you and Amelia were very close. Itâs only natural to be upset.â
âWe were,â Mia nodded emphatically. âIâve been with her since the beginning, and weâve spent so much time building this business. I donât know whatâs going to happen to all of us. I mean, I have an idea for the short term, but what about a month from now or a year?â Her eyes were wide and innocent looking, brimming with unshed tears. âI donât have more than two hundred dollars in my savings account.â
âWhat do you think is going to happen with the business for now?â Brigid asked, following a thought. After all, people often kill because there would be some sort of financial gain to them. Inheriting a successful business might be motive enough. She assumed there was some sort of chain of command or a person who would at least take over temporarily.
âI would assume her husband will take over. Between the two of us, we should be able to manage,â Mia said. There was something about her tone that made Brigid take notice. It was almost as if the woman was looking forward to it. It struck her as odd, considering how upset Mia had been just a few moments earlier.
âI can see that,â Brigid said carefully. âEven if itâs only temporary, there would have to be someone who knows whatâs going on to take over the reins. Where is her husband now?â
âIâm not really sure,â Mia said. âMaybe in their room?â
