CHAPTER 4

Suddenly, Jay hollered out, “My lips! My lips! My mouth is tingling! They’re going numb. Someone hel—“

Before he was able to finish his sentence, Jay’s muscles in his face started contracting and became rigid looking. He looked like he had become paralyzed on the right side of his face. Oh, my! I don’t think Croc’s light tap on Jay’s face caused that, now did it? Noooo, couldn’t of have! Jay then began shaking and having convulsions and it looked like he was going to fall.

Ashley screamed out, “He’s having a seizure. Hey, Croc. Help me lay J.J. on the floor. And Ethan, grab me something for him to bite on, like a cloth napkin. Hurry!” Ashley yelled at Ethan.

Before Ethan was able to retrieve a napkin and before Croc was able to help Ashley lay Jay gently on the floor, Jay suddenly let out another loud scream and finally collapsed to the floor. Ashley bent down to see if Jay was okay. Jay said something to her. In a faint voice we heard Jay say, “Go ya poi—“

Jay barely got his last words out when all of a sudden a bright streak outside the restaurant’s window lit up the sky like it was a Fourth of July celebration followed by a loud sonic boom. The loud boom was thunder that shook and rattled the entire restaurant. Next, it started to downpour and, unexpectedly, the room went pitch-black. The only faint light visible was the moonlight that was shining through the sky glass window above.

Ashley screamed and grabbed onto Croc’s arm.

Chrissy exclaimed and yelled out, “We lost our electricity! Everyone stay calm!”

This did not faze me one bit since this is not unusual for Florida weather. A microburst can happen anytime in the warm, humid climates and form unexpectedly. If it rains really hard, most definitely, it will disrupt the transformers and the electricity will go out. You’ll most likely hear a loud boom and a few seconds later you can expect the electricity to shut off—temporarily, anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.

A few seconds later Croc turned to me and said, “Boo!”

Just imagine that happening in the dark. I jumped, of course, and Ashley got spooked. She started shaking like a leaf and exclaimed, “Ya scared the livin’ daylights out of us, Croc!”

With a shaking voice, I said, “I don’t like the dark one bit.” I grabbed onto Croc’s left arm for security since Ashley was occupying his right arm tightly.

Croc exclaimed, “Who can beat this. I got me two pretty women here on ma arms. I’m all for the electricity stayin’ off. Anyone second that, ” he hollered to anyone that was listening.

No one replied except for me. “Oh, stop that, silly,” I said as I swatted at his arm.

“Well, it’s true, Maddie! Ya pretty!”

I felt my cheeks get warm but luckily Croc couldn’t see me blush. I replied, “I guess so in the dark because you can’t see what I look like.”

Croc chuckled.

That’s when Ashley let go of Croc’s arm and exclaimed, “I have a bright idea.
