The fact that we still can’t leave the next morning is annoying but acceptable in light of our immense relief. The Rohtang La is the first of many passes on the stretch heading north and notorious for its desolate condition and enormous traffic volume, because masses of Indians drive up there to touch snow at least once in their lifetime. On Tuesdays it is prohibited and no tourists are allowed to drive on the pass, so that the construction team can repair the road, at least provisionally. And tomorrow is Tuesday, hence we have no other choice than to put up with it and hold out one more day with ants in our pants.
