Those who accept the witness of the Spirit cannot tarry with him as such. There can be no abstract receiving and possessing of the Holy Spirit. There can be no self-moved and self-resting life in the Spirit, no self-sufficient spiritual status. The witness of the Holy Spirit does not have itself either as its origin or its goal.22
