My gall bladder’s left me; it vanished long ago

And over many decades I’ve lost a tooth or so,

But of my other gear and sundry parts with which I started

I’m proud to say that none of them has surgically departed.

The hair now grows within my ears. My toenails are a sight.

I doze off during sermon time and lie awake at night,

But by way of compensation, I’m sure my wife will say

That my attitude grows sweeter with every passing day.

Despite my many flaws for which I need to make amends

I’m greatly rich in grandkids and doubly blessed with friends.

And as I launch another year and teeter on the brink

My greatest consolation is: I’ve kept my wits—I think!
