At first glance you might think Vieques Flower and Gifts (134 Calle Flamboyan, Esperanza, 787/741-4197, daily 9am-6pm Nov.-May, daily 10am-5pm summer) is another souvenir shop selling T-shirts and tchotchkes, but you’ll also find artisan-made vejigante masks and pottery made by local artists.

Vibrant original paintings and prints on canvas of tropical flowers, fish, palm trees, and jungle scenes by local artist Siddhia Hutchinson can be found at Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Design Studio and Gallery (Carmen Hotel, Calle Muñoz Rivera, 787/741-1343, http://siddhiahutchinsongallery.com, Mon.-Sat. 10am-4pm). The artwork has also been tastefully reproduced on ceramics, dinnerware, rugs, and pillows.

Gallery Galleon (Carr. 201, west of Esperanza, south of Carr. 197, 787/741-3078, www.gallerygalleon.com, Tues.-Sun. 11am-5pm) is a large and beautiful fine-art gallery that hosts changing exhibitions. Local and regional artists exhibit work in a variety of mediums—from photography and painting to sculpture and metalwork. The gallery also hosts lively artist receptions and dance performances.
