“Blessed are the Poor in Spirit.”

This implies that we must work towards an inner emptiness. “Poor in spirit” means we recognize the need for a vital connection to the spiritual world. With respect to money, we’re unable to comprehend its sacredness unless we divest ourselves of our own notions, opinions, and speculation regarding currency. With the first part of this beatitude we are asked to enter into “not-knowing” what money is about; this means not particularly wanting it, nor fearing not having it. It means to work at releasing ourselves from being filled with thoughts concerning money. Also, this doesn’t involve positive thinking to which books on prosperity allude. Instead, it’s an evolving openness to the spiritual world with regard to its ineluctable connection with money.
