Yet in strength circles, the sleek, silky, smooth appearing muscles are acknowledged as being by far the best. The man with the knotty, bunched- up muscles devoid of any fatty covering is never as good as the other type. My experience has taught me there is less life to these knotty muscles, also the nervous energies stimulating them are too quickly absorbed. Of course, there are exceptions. Hackenschmidt is one. When he tensed his muscles, they stood out boldly and clearly defined but in relaxations, they smoothed out free of display with the exception of the contour.
