Through all this dialog across the Atlantic, my instincts told me that exclusivity would eventually lead our group into troubles, but the fact that the Harsch-Fischbach couple were getting undeniably the best ITC contacts in the world convinced me to support them. They obviously had higher spiritual beings committed to their efforts, so they were apparently in the right way. That was my assumption.
Still, I continued to apply small pressure to open the meeting to individuals who I thought would bring harmony to the group. It was a rather frustrating time for me, torn between my in-bred tendencies toward open forums and this need for exclusivity and resonance.
STRAINED RELATIONS,
THE SPRING OF 1995
With the publication of my first ITC book, Conversations Beyond the Light, I got pressure from my coauthor, Dr. Pat Kubis, and our small California publisher to help spread the word about ITC through television. It seemed to me that the Harsch-Fischbachs had developed a fear of TV coverage of ITC because of bad experiences in Europe, but I hoped to alleviate their fears with good publicity that I knew I could get here in the States. There were a number of popular programs that handled spiritual subjects rather well, including "The Other Side," "Sightings," and "The Oprah Winfrey Show." To pursue TV coverage here in the United States, either I'd have to proceed without notifying my friends in Luxembourg, or else I'd have to persuade them that TV coverage could be a good thing. Aware that hidden agendas and secrets disrupted the ITC contact field, I decided on May 10 to approach Maggy and Jules carefully by fax.
"At the present time there's great interest among the American people for all spiritual information, from ghosts to angels," I wrote. "I have an important opportunity to spread a good message to the public here in the States." I asked the couple if they would trust me to represent the work in a good light on American television. After all, Jules had told me in the fall of 1993 that I was entrusted to represent their work in any way that I deemed appropriate. The following year Maggy had told me, on the contrary, that my rights and responsibilities were very limited. If my responsibilities were to continue ebbing and flowing like the tide, I was hoping that the tide was currently in.
No such luck. Jules had run out of patience. He blasted me in a letter, saying he and Maggy were sick and tired of having to address the same subject over and over as though addressing "a stubborn boy."
Not only was the tide out for TV coverage, but it appeared there would be spines and sharp coral edges hiding in the sand on the way to the water. It became apparent at that moment that unless something shifted, my collaboration with the Harsch-Fischbachs might not last. Meanwhile, I was in a difficult position. My main role in world ITC was to help spread the miracles around the world in a positive light—of that I had no doubt.
