Your body language matters a lot when you meet new people. Experts suggest trying on these moves for size:

Jumping into a powerful pose before (definitely not after) you step into the room: That means puffing up your chest and standing like a superhero, putting your hands on your hips, or flexing your biceps a few times. It may feel weird, but it can give you a natural confidence boost.

Keeping an open posture by rolling your shoulders back and keeping your head up: Raise your chin a bit and stand up straight so people see you as welcoming and friendly. (And as a bonus, standing with good posture helps you breathe easier.)

Gesturing with your hands, but only occasionally: An upward-turned hand, for example, makes your requests more inviting to the recipient; punctuating a statement with a pointed finger or hand gesture can help emphasize your point.

Steering clear of fidgeting: Don’t stand so incredibly still that you become invisible to the eye, but avoid tapping your foot, pacing around, or anything else that makes you seem nervous or unconfident.
