Cyclops

A cyclops, in Greek mythology and later Roman mythology, is a member of a primordial race of giants, each with a single eye in the centre of his forehead. The name literally means ‘round-eyed’ or ‘circle-eyed’.

HMS Cyclops

Four ships of the Royal Navy were named HMS Cyclops, the first a 28-gun vessel launched in 1779 and the last a repair-ship which was formerly the merchant ship Indrabarah, built by Sir James Laing & Son, Sunderland, launched in 1905 and commissioned in 1907. The lightly armoured vessel saw service during both world wars and was scrapped in 1947.
