Chapter Seventeen
Ezra Knicks
The doorbell wakes me up from a deep sleep. I roll over to check my phone only to find itâs only an hour later. I climb out of bed quicker than youâd think humanly possible to rush to the door in only my boxers. Iâm concerned it may be Jackson at the door, and I donât want him to wander off if heâs in need of comfort.
I swing the door open as soon as I reach it, but it isnât Jackson on the other side. Instead, itâs a girl. Itâs difficult to access her age, but Iâd say sheâs probably in her twenties. Sheâs crying, and he nose is gushing blood.
âIs Wesley home?â she asks me.
I donât know who she is, but she knows Wesley, and sheâs probably in a shit ton of pain. I step to the side and hold the door open.
âCome on in. Why donât you sit on the couch, and Iâll get you something for your nose?â
Sheâs holding her hand up to her face trying to catch the dripping blood. When I make the suggestion, she shakes her head then grimaces in pain.
âI donât want to mess up the furniture,â she tells me ridiculously.
âWesley isnât going to give two shits about his furniture right now. If he does, Iâll replace it,â I tell her as I grab ahold of her arm.
She flinches slightly, but itâs before I touch her, and her eyes widen in fear. Sheâs jumpy, and that sends off warning bells in my brain.
âYou need to sit,â I tell her gently as I guide her towards the couch.
She protests for another second, but I insist on her sitting down. Her standing right now is honestly giving me anxiety. Once sheâs situated, I rush into the kitchen, grab a washcloth from the drawer, wet it, and fill it with ice for good measure. When I walk into the living to hand it to her, she smiles at me appreciatively.
âThanks,â she whispers, and she blushes.
At first, I think sheâs embarrassed about the situation, which I almost address, but then her eyes slide over my body, and I realize Iâm still in my boxers. I smile at her, and I give her a small wink.
âGuess I should put on some clothes, huh?â I tease her.
She smiles back at me and shrugs her shoulders.
âIâm good if you donât,â she tells me.
I chuckle despite the situation because sheâs adorable. Sheâs too young for me, and sheâs a she, but sheâs so freaking cute I can hardly stand it. I wonder about the nose, and I almost ask, but she looks fairly comfortable on the couch, and I doubt sheâs leaving any time soon, so I excuse myself to get dressed.
Once Iâm dressed in sweat pants and a t-shirt, I decide it might be best to wake Wes up. Whoever she is, she knows him, not me, and despite her good sense of humor, sheâs vulnerable as hell right now, and she came looking for Wes.
I hesitate for a second outside of his door, but after a moment, I decide to go inside his room without knocking.
