Chapter Seventeen

Ezra Knicks

The doorbell wakes me up from a deep sleep. I roll over to check my phone only to find it’s only an hour later. I climb out of bed quicker than you’d think humanly possible to rush to the door in only my boxers. I’m concerned it may be Jackson at the door, and I don’t want him to wander off if he’s in need of comfort.

I swing the door open as soon as I reach it, but it isn’t Jackson on the other side. Instead, it’s a girl. It’s difficult to access her age, but I’d say she’s probably in her twenties. She’s crying, and he nose is gushing blood.

“Is Wesley home?” she asks me.

I don’t know who she is, but she knows Wesley, and she’s probably in a shit ton of pain. I step to the side and hold the door open.

“Come on in. Why don’t you sit on the couch, and I’ll get you something for your nose?”

She’s holding her hand up to her face trying to catch the dripping blood. When I make the suggestion, she shakes her head then grimaces in pain.

“I don’t want to mess up the furniture,” she tells me ridiculously.

“Wesley isn’t going to give two shits about his furniture right now. If he does, I’ll replace it,” I tell her as I grab ahold of her arm.

She flinches slightly, but it’s before I touch her, and her eyes widen in fear. She’s jumpy, and that sends off warning bells in my brain.

“You need to sit,” I tell her gently as I guide her towards the couch.

She protests for another second, but I insist on her sitting down. Her standing right now is honestly giving me anxiety. Once she’s situated, I rush into the kitchen, grab a washcloth from the drawer, wet it, and fill it with ice for good measure. When I walk into the living to hand it to her, she smiles at me appreciatively.

“Thanks,” she whispers, and she blushes.

At first, I think she’s embarrassed about the situation, which I almost address, but then her eyes slide over my body, and I realize I’m still in my boxers. I smile at her, and I give her a small wink.

“Guess I should put on some clothes, huh?” I tease her.

She smiles back at me and shrugs her shoulders.

“I’m good if you don’t,” she tells me.

I chuckle despite the situation because she’s adorable. She’s too young for me, and she’s a she, but she’s so freaking cute I can hardly stand it. I wonder about the nose, and I almost ask, but she looks fairly comfortable on the couch, and I doubt she’s leaving any time soon, so I excuse myself to get dressed.

Once I’m dressed in sweat pants and a t-shirt, I decide it might be best to wake Wes up. Whoever she is, she knows him, not me, and despite her good sense of humor, she’s vulnerable as hell right now, and she came looking for Wes.

I hesitate for a second outside of his door, but after a moment, I decide to go inside his room without knocking.
