Chapter Four

None of El Mundo’s guards had died last night, but three of his own men had been captured while attempting to flee with cases of heroin. Frustration beat at him.

John tapped his fingers against his legs as he walked around the captured men.

“I will reward my loyal followers.” With a lengthy stay in jail…

“Thank you, Señor.” José grinned and hit one of the men with the butt of his pistol.

John nodded and folded his arms, holding a finger against his chin. He tapped it against his chin slowly and looked at the men. They cowered in fear like the weak, useless men they were. “This is how you repay my loyalty?”

None would look him in the eyes. It would do no good even if they had. “No one has anything to say then?” He clasped his hands behind his back as he walked around the circle. “Little girls. You’re nothing but a bunch of little girls.” John snorted and turned around. He grinned when Nalini slithered into the room.

She moved with a grace that never failed to amaze him. She slithered against the prisoners and wound up tight against one of them.

“That’s my girl.” John snorted in disgust when the man pissed himself. “You see, Nalini doesn’t need me to give her orders in order for her to carry out my wishes. She’s as disappointed in you men as I am. Not to mention disgusted. That was just a terrible display of self-control, Marcus.”

At least there were only three of them. He looked at the one she had wrapped around. “He’s not dead yet.” He made a tsk sound when Nalini released the man anyway.

“Perhaps she wants to play with him.” José laughed and slapped the back of the guard closest to him. “Are you gonna put on a show for El Mundo’s men?”

John pretended to contemplate it, but he already knew he was going to. What better way to show them he was neither lenient nor softhearted. “We could execute each of you quickly and painlessly, but where’s the fun in that?”

A few of his men snickered. John braced himself as Nalini made her way up his body. Thank God he’d found some relief last night. Just yesterday he’d gotten hard as a nail when she’d done the same thing.

“You’re such a good girl.” John rubbed Nalini’s head. He swore she almost purred as her head pressed into his hand. “How’d you like to have some fun?”

“No!” One of the men trembled. The one who’d pissed himself. Marcus.

Sniveling idiot.

John narrowed his eyes and looked at the man.

“Please. Anything but the snake. Anything but the damned snake.”

“You dare to tell me how to kill you after you stole from me? After you stuck a knife into my back and twisted it?”

John reached out and grabbed the man by the neck. “You think that I have an ounce of sympathy in me? Any forgiveness for you who would challenge me?” He squeezed. He’d kill the damn fool with his bare hands.
