Superman smashes the remote in his fist. Then he lifts the little girl who stood up to Luthor onto his shoulder. “Power belongs in the hands of the merciful, Luthor,” Superman says. “Maybe one day you’ll learn that lesson yourself.”

“Ah, you got me.” Luthor steps around the curtain holding a flashlight. He shines it at Clark and Lois and walks slowly over to them. Behind him are three LexCleans. “I created these neat little robots to do my dirty work,” he explains, chuckling. “With a LexClean in every house I would have all of the data I could ever need. I would be able to predict what people would need to buy before they knew themselves.”

“It’s called spying, Lex. And it’s illegal,” Lois says, standing to stare Luthor in the eye.

“Think of how helpful it could be,” Luthor says, shrugging. “Like having on-the-scene reporters at every scene.”

“Your home infiltration system is nothing like reporting,” Lois says, offended.

“And your robotic spyware stops here,” Clark adds.

“You’re partly right, Kent. Something will stop here. But it isn’t my LexCleans. It’s your meddling!” Luthor growls.

Lex takes a step back and the three LexCleans behind him lurch forward with their arms outstretched. Lois ducks. Clark points to something behind Lex and shouts, “Look out!”

With Lex and Lois distracted, Clark reaches out and grabs a LexClean by the leg. He swings the robot in an arc on the floor, sweeping the other two robots off their feet. While Lex and Lois look stunned at the three downed robots, Clark quickly turns around. He removes his glasses and burns through the cords holding the heavy curtains.

When the curtains fall, Lex, his damaged LexCleans, and Lois stand blinking in the light. The crowd stares. Clark staggers forward rubbing his eyes. Then he grabs a microphone from a stunned technician.

“Ladies and gentleman, on behalf of the Daily Planet we have an announcement,” Clark says. Then he hands the mic to Lois and dials the police.

Lois glares at Luthor, who is too shocked at what’s just happened to do anything. Then she turns and addresses the crowd.

“My colleague and I have discovered something that can’t wait for tomorrow’s front page,” Lois says. “That’s right, folks, Luthor’s LexCleans aren’t just for tidying up. They’re for gathering dirt — on all of you! These robots are programmed to spy on you! We’ve informed the police, and they’ll be seizing the LexCleans for further investigation.”

“No!” Luthor finds his voice and protests loudly.

“I’m afraid so,” Clark nods awkwardly. At that moment the police arrive and begin to gather up the LexCleans. There’s nothing Luthor can do.

“Now that’s the way to keep things clean,” Lois says. Clark can’t agree more.
