Easing into waking, I blinked a few times, brow automatically furrowing as I noticed the roaring fire was the only source of light in the room. Wait, what happened with the gods? I pushed myself up to sitting and realized that Merrick was now asleep, head tipped back, and I smiled at the sight.

“You were out of it.” Emrys’ calm voice cut through the silence, and I looked around until I found him sitting in a nearby armchair, closing a book as he spoke to me. “Anouk said they would come by in the morning when you were awake.”

I nodded, not having it in me to argue since I still felt tired even after my nap. If I could even call it a nap. “How long was I asleep?”

Emrys pushed his glasses up, looking thoughtful. “Probably four or five hours. The others are all in their rooms. In fact, I was about to go upstairs myself.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to push off a meeting with the gods,” I whispered, making sure not to wake Merrick.

“It was probably for the best,” Emrys softly replied, standing up. “I think they sensed we still needed time to cool off before we said anything to them. We’re going to want answers for a lot of things when we meet them again.” I shivered at the dark promise in his tone, and he smiled gently before walking over and holding a hand out to me.

“What about Merrick?”

“He seems pretty comfortable to me.” Emrys kept his hand steady. “He’ll know you’re okay when he wakes up. Besides, he got to cuddle with you all afternoon.” Emrys’ cool facade cracked a bit as he stared down at me, his blue eyes bright when he spoke again. “I need you.”

Reaching up, I placed my hand in his, any hesitation gone at the slight crack in his voice. Emrys pulled me up and led the way upstairs, right to his bedroom. He pushed the door open, and I let out a small gasp at what I found.

Emrys had created a bookworm’s paradise; three of the walls were covered in books from the ceiling to the floor. There were two large armchairs placed in front of a fireplace, looking so inviting I almost sat right down. Instead, I walked across the plush carpet, taking it all in, and was wondering where the bed was. Seemingly reading my mind, Emrys gestured at a small door on the far side of the fireplace. I hurried over and opened it to find a room with a huge skylight above a large bed covered in soft white and cream sheets. I bet you could lay there and see all the stars above you as you fall asleep.

Emrys stepped up close behind me, his body heat warming me as he skimmed his hands along my upper arms. Bending over, he pressed a kiss on my shoulder as I stood there in awe of what he’d created. “I take it you like it?”

“I wished I knew I could do an entire suite of rooms,” I managed, unable to voice just how much I loved it.
