House where Poul Thorsen moved his research group NANEA off campus in Aarhus University around 2004.

One other Danish scientist, Mads Melbye, was the second supervisor to PhD candidate student Kreesten Madsen. Dr. Melbye, Madsen, Thorsen, and Diana Schendel, among others, would share coauthor bylines on several studies between 2002 and 2005. It could have been Mads Melbye, who today runs Denmark’s cutting edge BioBank at SSI, who told Madsen to keep quiet on Poul Thorsen lack of involvement.

If the allegations are proven to be true I should learn by summer’s end. In an email to me on Monday, July 13, 2015, Allan Flyvbjerg, Dean of Health at Aarhus University, had agreed to examine that claim, among others, writing: “I’m presently at summer vacation, as is the administrative staff I need to address the various elements of your inquiry in a meticulous way. We will get back to you in the first half of August.”147

The first charge, in which Poul Thorsen “did no work” on the key Danish studies for the CDC, goes against the Vancouver Protocol on reference papers, or more precisely, the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. And two of the main points of the Vancouver Protocol on authors’ credits are:

Third, authors sending manuscripts to a participating journal should not try to prepare them in accordance with the publication style of that journal but should follow the Uniform Requirements.

Authors must also follow the instructions to authors in the journal as to what topics are suitable for that journal and the types of papers that may be submitted—for example, original articles, reviews, or case reports. In addition, the journal’s instructions are likely to contain other requirements unique to that journal, such as the number of copies of a manuscript that are required, acceptable languages, length of articles, and approved abbreviations.148
