Waterfowl often hide among the reeds and grasses while they are molting. When birds molt, they are more vulnerable to predators than usual since they canât fly. Wetlands offer places to hide from predators until the birdsâ feathers grow back and they can fly again.
Marshes and swamps provide a resting and feeding stop for migrating birds. Some types of birds will roost in these places and raise their young until they are ready to continue their migratory journey.
Many reptiles and birds lay their eggs in the protected areas of marshes and swamps. The tall grasses provide protection from predators for small creatures.
