Chapter Ten

Remy wanted nothing more than to lay in bed and just wallow in Hugo’s presence. But the time for dinner rapidly approached and he had a decision to make.

Hugo seemed content to bask in the afterglow and in no rush to leave. Maybe he was waiting for Remy to make the first move and ask him to either stay or go.

“Hey. Are you hungry?” Remy rolled over and tapped Hugo on the chest, then ran his fingers through the hair covering it.

Hugo gave him a sidelong glance. “It smelled wonderful in the kitchen.”

“Gigi is a marvelous cook. I think it’s chicken with pasta.” Remy nudged Hugo with his elbow.

“What about your parents?” Hugo searched the ceiling for… whatever.

Remy exhaled. “Well, I guess if you’re going to be hanging around, I need to be honest with them. I’m not up for sneaking around.” Although he definitely had the power to sneak. He wasn’t ready for that yet. He had no idea if he could even bring anyone but himself through the door. What if he tried with Hugo and something horrible happened? Like Hugo got…disintegrated? Or melted? Or stuck somewhere in between? No way would he risk Hugo.

Hugo rolled to face Remy. “Are you sure? Your mother isn’t going to like this. And I’m not sure how your father will react to the hired help having their way with his son.”

“Guess we’ll just have to find out.” Remy sat up. “Let’s get clean and dressed, then we’ll go down. Dinner should be ready by then.”

He picked up his phone and started texting. “I’m letting Gigi know to set another place.” He hit send. A moment later he got a text reply. “She sent a smiley face. With kisses. And a wink.”

Hugo laughed. “Well, that’s one on our side.” His smile faded. “I’m taking a big chance, Remy. I need this job. It’s a real career booster, you know. If I lose it…” He shook his head and bit his bottom lip.

Hugo had more to lose than Remy did, and it wasn’t fair to Hugo to not listen to what he needed and wanted. Time to adult.

“If you want to keep quiet, I will. I don’t want to ruin your life. That’s not what I want at all.” Remy rubbed Hugo’s chest. “Look, maybe we should just wait until the stable is done before we tell everyone. What do you feel most comfortable with?”

Hugo screwed up his face. He took a few deep breaths then took Remy’s hand in his, threaded their fingers together. “I’m not ashamed of being with you. If anyone should be, it’s you with me. However, the idea of not being with you for the next five months? While seeing you around checking on the progress? Dieu! I’m going to go crazy.”

“I feel you. So? What’s your decision?”

“I hate it, but I think it’s best if we just leave it alone. At least until the art show because I really want to be there to support you. I should be almost done with the stable by then.
