Alyssa

The shrill sound shocked her awake.

Harpies.

She opened her eyes. The room looked hazy and something was sticking in her throat.

Smoke!

Alyssa readied herself. She was half asleep and naked, but she could still kick ass. Whatever it was, they had better not mess with her, especially when she was tired.

The noise isn’t harpies. It’s the fucking smoke alarm.

Alyssa shot up, noticing the distinct lack of war god next to her in the bed. That fucking creep. Last night had really been something and she thought that he not only wanted her in the sack, but that it may have meant something.

All those comforting words. She could kick herself. No time for that now.

Smoke billowed into the room as the alarm picked at her brains. Looked like the creep did a runner and left her to fry—these gods were all heart. Alyssa pressed the back of her hand to her mouth. That fucker.

She picked up a cushion and swiped at the smoke with it. Of all the gods in Olympus, why did she end up babysitting then bedding this one! If she got her hands on him again, she swore she would tear him limb from fucking limb.

She was at the bedroom door, naked, following the trail of smoke, cursing like there was no tomorrow when her mouth dropped to the floor.

Ares.

It looked as though the kitchen had been ransacked, then set upon by toddlers then used for an army training exercise. In the middle of this carnage stood Ares, wearing nothing but a smile and an apron that read Try My Cupcakes. With the size of him it barely covered anything.

Oh my fucking god…

Was she really awake or was she still dreaming? Because this felt real, but there was no way that Ares, God of War, was standing in front of her with a pair of cupcakes for tits looking as though he had just won a centuries-old war. She could nearly pee her panties, if she had been wearing any.

She knew he was used to the battlefield, and the kitchen certainly resembled one. Pots, pans, flour, egg whites—something brown and streaky. All finished with a topping of smoke.

“Good morning,” he said. “I hope I didn’t wake you.”

Is he fucking serious?

“That infernal noise, I didn’t know how to stop it.” His brow now knitted together in a frown.

Alyssa sent a shock of energy at the smoke alarm. It fizzed and then stopped before the plastic casing dropped to the floor.

“Thank the titans,” he said. “I couldn’t hear myself think.”

Alyssa stifled a laugh. “It’s a smoke alarm," she informed him. “It senses the smoke and alerts people there is a fire.”

“Ah! Makes sense. Where’s the fire though?” he looked at her as if she were the stupid one.

“It doesn’t matter,” she said.

“Good, well then, after last night’s exertions, I thought you would be hungry.” He smiled knowingly at her, taking in her naked form.

She crossed her arms. “I am.” She smiled back.

“Good, then sit.” He pulled a chair for her and she took her place at the table.
