Chapter Fourteen
KYNA LOOKED AT her feet as she made her way down the empty corridor toward her room. Her mind was still on bonding, Sinclair, and the real possibility of having a family. It wasnât something she thought she would ever really do.
Instead of focusing on the weighty issues, like wraiths, mastery, and dying realms, her thoughts were on what sort of child her and Sinclair would have. How they went about it was something they never talked about in detail. He indicated that his spawning was much different to human mating.
She knew he was part nymph and had very aquatic traits when wet. Even though she told him the slight changes heâd let her see were beautiful, he had yet to submerge himself in water in front of her. He also never told her what sort of creature his father was, other than to say that he wasnât human.
The not human part didnât bother her. Nothing about Sinclair was monstrous. He was peace and cleansing, like water witches. She felt that mixed with her earth magic they should create a beautiful life.
Or mud, she joked to herself.
That made her realize it could all be irrelevant.
There was still the possibility her and Sinclair couldnât spawn. They hadnât created life in the human way, and he certainly gave that effort his full attention.
Jamie peeked out of the doorway of her own room. âThatâs an interesting smile. Care to share? I could use something happy to think about.â
Kyna looked up and her smile deepened. âWhat are you still doing up? You need to rest after all youâve been through.â
âIâm not sleeping, not while knowing Brac is facing that vile thing.â Jamie frowned. âIt never gets easier. Each time he walks away it could be the last.â
âOkay, that is dour.â Kyna followed her into the room and sat in the chair beside the bed. âWould you think I was insensitive if I told you I wasnât worrying about things? I was actually thinking about Sinclair.â
Jamie sat down on the bed. âNot at all. You looked so peaceful. The last time we chatted about you two, it wasnât making you happy. Tell me about what changed.â
Kyna told Jamie that she just decided to get altered and start a family. âJust tonight. I think when I tell him, heâs going to faint. He has been asking me, well, almost since he said hello.â
âYes, it was hard to miss his affectionate way with you.â Jamie smiled so broad it reached her eyes. âThat is wonderful news.â
âIâve never felt this sort of hope. I owe it to Brac and you. He gave me the perspective I needed to make up my mind.â Kyna reached out and took Jamieâs hand. âI realize that the changes in him are because of you. He wasnât able to reach inside and find his own heart. You did that.â
Jamie was stunned and filled with a peace she didnât think she would have that night. Sheâd talked with Kyna a lot about her
