USING TURPENTINE

I have found turpentine to have rather a mind of its own, sometimes producing a good lacey effect, at other times producing large unwanted holes. Having experimented with other oils to use in its place, I have found some of the lighter lubricating oils work better. It is worth experimenting with various oils until you find one that suits. You will need to adjust the colour mixes as you make more sheets because of the continually evaporating oil.

Another tricky element when using these chemicals is that after making twenty or so sheets the size becomes saturated with chemicals and the pattern will no longer work upon it. However, it is worth persevering with the pattern as the results can be beautiful. Try adding the turpentine or lubricating oil to other colours on different coloured papers; some interesting results can be achieved.
