Chapter 4

Madden wandered through the woods as his bear, keeping his nose to the ground as he followed the trail that Suzy, one of Rose’s daughters, had been taking. He wasn’t out to kill the girl, but to find her and take her back to the jail that held her sister, Sharon, who had been almost too easy to trap and capture. They were still looking for Rose as well. She was here, but she was moving a great deal and crisscrossing paths, so it was difficult to narrow her down. He laughed when Pierce contacted him.

We’ll find her. Of that, he had no doubt, he told Pierce when he spoke to him. I am having fun, however. Just so you know, humans are as dumb here as they are at home. I’m standing about as far off the road as I can be while they’re all getting out of their cars and taking pictures. Have they any idea that I’m a huge fucking bear that could very well have them for dinner?

I think they’re too easily duped into thinking they’ll live forever. It has a lot to do with them being around them. Pierce told him he thought they were just fucking dumb. They are that as well, my dear brother. They really are.

This was their third day out there looking for the woman. When he found her, he was going to harm her in ways so she’d not be able to move around so much. He wanted to be home with his wife, so he could make a baby with her.

It’s a small wonder we’ve not made several hundred of them the way we go at each other all the time. I can’t believe t I put off sex for so long after me getting my head out of my ass. He laughed when Gabby did. I love you, Madden. So very much. Now find this woman so I can take you home and rape you again.

Yes, ma’am. He buried his snout into the deep grass and could smell something different. It wasn’t just the scent they’d been given at the house. This one was human, but not female. Then he smelled the second scent. There are two other scents out here. Humans, males. I’d say they’re looking for the girl, too, as they’re following the scent as closely as we are.

The rest of the shifters hunting for the girl came to where he was. Almost as soon as they all got the scent, the man and boy came out of the wooded area close to where they were and stopped. He hadn’t any idea what they thought when they looked at the ten or so large black bears standing close enough to touch them, but as soon as they took off running in the opposite direction from where the bears were, Madden started laughing hard enough to fall off his feet.

They looked more shocked than we did. He hurt, he was laughing so hard. Every time he thought he had himself under control, he’d see that kid’s face and laugh again.
