In this recipe, one of my favorite desserts takes macaron form. The shells are sprinkled with a sugar and cinnamon mixture before baking, which will give them a slightly crunchy texture that is quite delightful to bite into. The macarons are then filled with dulce de leche surrounded by Dulce de Leche Swiss Meringue Buttercream. If you can find a brand of dulce de leche that is thick enough and that holds its shape, you can pipe it directly onto the macarons and omit the buttercream. However, many brands are quite runny and may not hold up on their own. Regardless, dulce de leche is rich in flavor and has a sticky, fudgy texture that is exceptionally delicious.
