I didn’t want to be at this stupid fucking meeting. I wanted to be inside Valentina but instead of sinking my cock deep into her core, Dante yanked me off of her and told to shower and dress. This was a three-piece suit kind of meeting, and I hated getting dressed up. Armani, it seemed to be the lesser of two evils with the suits Ares bought for me. The others were cut too close to my body and made me even more uncomfortable. Since I was told to make sure I was presentable, I had fewer knives on me than I’d like. Guns were fine, and I never left the house without them, but killing someone with a knife was a feeling that you never forgot. I didn’t believe in killers who compartmentalized everything. If you take someone’s life, you should remember it. Remember them. All in all, today was shit, and it wasn’t even noon.

“We’re so sorry for your loss.” I heard Dante droning on with pleasantries. “But I’m not sure what the death of your friend has to do with me.”

In New York City, we were at one of our properties. We rarely slept here, but used it for meetings just like this. We lived at Villa Corsetti, and all of us preferred it that way. It kept a certain distance between work and home life.

“As you know, it wasn’t just the death of a friend but also the loss of my future wife.”

“Really? I hadn’t heard.” Dante said, as his hands curled tightly around the arms of his chair.

“It was an arrangement made just recently. I believe you knew his daughter, Valentina?”

Dante was pissed, and I couldn’t blame him. “Yes, but wasn’t she a young girl?”

“She was, but the younger the better in my eyes. Let’s you train them up real nice.” I stepped forward, ready to plunge the knife I was playing with into the sick fuck’s throat, but was stopped by a hand from one of his guards. Dante didn’t even flinch. This is why he and I hold two very different jobs in the family.

“So Angelo, how exactly can I help you then?”

“There are rumors. That she may have made it out of the fire. Her room was empty and if that’s the case, then I would like your permission to hire some of your men to find her.”

“My men?”

“Yes. I have an upcoming auction and would like this settled beforehand. I approached a security firm, Calvano Security, but they aren’t looking to bring on any new clients.”

I laughed, knowing damn well who he was talking about. The men he was contacted were all military veterans. They did a lot of private security for families and friends of people who had been in the service. I remember stories of Angelo being in the Army but if my memory is correct, they dishonorably discharged him. Not that a dishonorable discharge would keep them from working with him. They worked in the gray aspects of the law and have been known to do whatever it takes to get the results they are looking for.
