CHAPTER 18

MISCHA

M

ischa sat across from Raynell and Ebony at their favorite bar, Laya's Lounge, laughing hysterically as they enjoyed happy hour.

"I'll take a vodka and cranberry," Raynell told the waitress. She

was completing her usual ritual of drinks having just thrown back two shots of Patron.

Ebony ordered a second glass of wine and Mischa ordered a lemonade.

"Seriously Mischa, why come to happy hour if you're not going to drink?" Raynell asked. "One drink isn't going to hurt."

"I came to eat, not get wasted," Mischa said digging into her order of buffalo wings.

"So lame," Ebony teased. "Well I wanted to tell you that Sierra has been starting rumors about you."

"Like what?" Mischa asked, bracing herself.

"She's been saying that you're a hoe and that you let guys run trains on you. She said you’re a bum. You keep a nasty house. Said she went over to see the kids and the place was trashed."

"Where did you hear this?" Mischa asked.

"My cousin did her hair a few times," Ebony explained. "I don't even know how they got on the subject but that's what she told me."

"All of it is a lie. What do I look like letting some guys run a train on me? I heard that's how she gets down. And she's never been to my house." She didn't want her embarrassement to show, so she put on a happy face around her friend and sister, but Mischa was very hurt. She'd never done anything to Sierra so she didn't quite understand the hate.

"Girl, don't worry about it," Raynell chimed in. "No one believes that bitch. Everybody knows you’re with Melvin and everybody knows he ain't having it."

"I'm not telling you this to upset you," Ebony said. "I know better. I just thought you should know that she's running around talking shit about you."

"That's okay because when I see her I'm going to whoop her ass," Raynell said, clearly furious. Although Mischa was the older sister, Raynell was very protective of her. Mischa's passive aggressiveness caused Raynell to feel the need defend her. "I heard this place is usually filled with ballers," Raynell said looking around trying to change the subject. She was constantly chasing the biggest wallet. "Where they at?"

"He's cute," Mischa said pointing out a man walking past their table.

"He doesn't have any money," Raynell frowned and continued scanning the room.

"How can you tell?" Mischa asked amused at Raynell's observation.

"He doesn't have on any bling and he's wearing plain white shoes. A baller would have shoes to match his orange and white shirt."

Mischa shook her head in disbelief. "Maybe he just got off from work and isn't trying to impress anyone," Mischa reasoned. "Why come to happy hour if you’re not trying to impress the ladies?" she retorted. "I didn't get dressed up for nothing. As a matter of fact I skipped lunch just so that my stomach would be as flat as possible." Mischa and Ebony continued to listen as Raynell went on and on about her new white, fitted jersey dress she had on that showed off her best asset, her ass.
