CHAPTER 6

Calvin

As I walked upstairs, I watched Dawn sitting in her car with her mouth wide open fanning herself. I chuckled as she continued to sit there for a few more minutes until finally she caught herself. When she drove off, I turned around to see Aaliyah looking at me and shaking her head like she was grown. I picked her up and kissed her cheek as I pulled the key out of my pocket. I stuck it into the opening and turned it. For some reason, the door was already unlocked so I pushed it open and Jo-Jo was sitting at the table with a look of anger written all over his face.

I sat Aaliyah down and she ran over to the couch and laid down. I was sure she was pooped after all that running around. I looked at him then went into the fridge and grabbed water. When I closed it and took a seat at the table, he finally spoke.

“I wouldn’t wish that shit on my worst enemy Calvin and you know you’re wrong for doing that shit man,” He said shaking his head.

“Come on man don’t start that shit Jo-Jo you of all people know she needs this,” I said looking him in the eyes, like a man.

“But not like this Calvin, you know they have places where she can go and get clean.” I laughed at that.

“Nigga we are dirt poor. It was either lock her ass up in the room or have her ass out here high. The way I see it, I’m doing everyone a favor so don’t come in here telling me what the fuck to do nigga. You’re her family and let her get like that so if anything you should be ashamed of yourself.” I said done with his shit.

“What the fuck could I do about it, Calvin? I was locked up just like you nigga. I come home and find her in the trap with a couple niggas getting tossed up. What the fuck did you think I did? I tried to help her but she was gone to hood man. Ain’t no changing that shit Calvin, my mother went through this shit just like her. You can’t change them until they are at their lowest of low and even then they might not even want to better themselves.” He shouted at me.

“Well, what the fuck are we supposed to do then?” I said standing up mad as hell.

“You can’t do nothing Calvin because once you let her out of your sight, she’s just going to go out there and get that next blast. I just stayed to tell you it ain’t going to work Calvin.” He said as he stood to his feet and pulled his hoodie over his head then walked out of the house.

“Fucking bitch!” I yelled upset at him.

“Daddy, come here,” Liyah said from on the couch. I went to her and sat there.

“What’s up Liyah?” I asked and she scrunched her nose up at me.
