LIECHTENSTEIN

Famous for its riches and castles, little Liechtenstein offers a wealth of ways to spend your days outside.

Bordered to the west by the Rhine, this otherwise landlocked, mountainous principality is absolutely made for hiking, biking and skiing.

Hiking

Liechtenstein is only 24km long, but it has more than 400km of walking tracks. The steep scree slopes of its highest point, Grauspitz (2599m), demand that hikers tap into their mountain goat genes to reach the summit, as there are no maintained tracks. The easiest ascent takes in the knobbly Schwarzhorn, then it’s an adrenaline-pumping walk along a razor-thin ridge. The neighbouring peaks of Falknis (2562m) and Naafkopf (2570m) see more action due to maintained trails. Look over Germany, Austria and Switzerland from the summits. Summer offers the best walking; bring crampons and ice axes in winter.
