Pink Papaya BACKPACKERS $

Note that there is no camping. The owner can also help with information on excursions to the Chimanimani Mountains, Gorongosa National Park and Penha Longa. It’s about 10 minutes on foot from the bus stand. With the bus stand to your right and train station to your left, walk straight and take the fourth right into Rua 3 de Fevereiro. Go one block to Rua Pigivide. On request, staff will accompany you to the bus stop for early morning departures.

Hotel-Residencial Castelo Branco HOTEL $$$

Offline map Google map ( 82-522 5960, 251-23934; Rua Sussundenga; s/d Mtc3800/4200; ) Catering to business travellers, this place has modern, comfortable twin- and double-bed rooms – all with minifridge and satellite TV – around a small garden, and offers a breakfast buffet. There’s also a restaurant, and apartments are available for long-term rentals. It’s signposted just off Praça dos Heróis and is often full.

Residencial Dabhad PENSION $$

Hotel Inter HOTEL $$$

There’s also a restaurant.

Residencial Safari PENSION $

Rooms have TV and hot water, and there’s internet connection if you have your own laptop. Breakfast is included, otherwise there are no meals.

Quinta Sol CAMPGROUND $

( 251-23759; [email protected]; per tent Mtc400) This campsite on the eastern edge of town, about 2km south of Shoprite in the Manjoro area, has camping, hot water for ablutions and cooking facilities. At the time of research it was due to open soon.

Hotel Milpark HOTEL $$

( 82-763 2312; [email protected]; tw & d from Mtc2500-4000; ) About 7km outside town along the Beira road, with straight- forward rooms around expansive grounds, a restaurant and a pool.

Complexo Hoteleiro Vila Pery HOTEL $$
