Dallas is Texas’s best-known city around the world, thanks in part to a prime-time soap opera and the Super Bowl-winning Dallas Cowboys.

And then there’s the matter of the events of November 22, 1963. Dallas suffers from continual image problems, in part because of the Kennedy assassination, but also because it is a major fi nancial center and has long been derided a place ruled by conspicuous consumption. Dallas does, in fact, boast more retailers per capita than any other U.S.

city. “Big D” prides itself on its “can do” spirit and entrepreneurial energy—qualities which have allowed the prairie city to grow, prosper, and attain a world-class status.
