With things still up in the air with him and London; Kareem decided to seek the advice of his two closest friends. They knew his history with Mila and how much he loved London. They also knew how Kareem was when it came to his mom.

“They say the first year is the hardest,” his boy Vaughn said as they sipped a few brews after work the day after the drama with his mom.

“The first year, hell we haven’t even quite made it to the first six months and shit is fucked up already,” Kareem admitted.

“You got to get your moms straight man and get back home to your family,” Kyle chimed in.

Kareem swallowed the remaining liquid, “It’s not that simple. Every time I get ready to leave she falls into a deep depression. I can’t take the chance that she’ll do something crazy.”

“Well who’s watching her while you’re working,” Vaughn wondered.

“Mila, mostly.”

Both of Kareem’s boys turned in astonishment, “Mila,” they exclaimed in unison.

Kareem dropped his head then looked up, “I know what you’re thinking, but get your minds out of the gutter. It’s what my mom wants for some reason.

Vaughn and Kyle gave each other a knowing look. They knew Mila and Kareem was a ticking time bomb waiting to combust. Both guys had been around for the rise and fall of that relationship.

“You banging that, man?” Vaughn decided to ask knowing his boy was weak when it came to Mila in the past.

Kareem hit Vaughn on the shoulder, “Hell no, I’m not banging that. I’m just there to look out for my mom. London would kill me for real if I did some shit like that.”

“What’s that saying…oh yeah, what they don’t know won’t hurt,” Kyle chimed in on the teasing.

“Yo, stop playing…both of y’all. You know that shit is over between me and Mila. Has been for a long time…” Kareem said.

“We know man. We’re just fucking with you. But seriously, though, what are you going to do about your mom? You can’t keep letting her control you like this.” Vaughn told his boy.

“She’s not controlling me,” Kareem yelled defensively.

“Look,” Kyle cut in, “you’re married now with a family at home. You can’t keep running out on them every time your mom calls. I understand when she’s sick or in the hospital, but this stuff she’s pulling right now is just plain manipulation, K.”

Kareem felt like no one understood his point of view when it came to his mom. She had given him everything growing up. He just felt that he owed her the same now that he was an adult. It had nothing to do with choosing sides; it was a matter of doing what’s right in his book. Why couldn’t they all see that?
