Pronghorn Beds

Zoe has seen spots where pronghorn bedded down the night before. “They make a little dent in the snow or grass,” she explains. “They flatten it all down, and sometimes you can see tracks to it and back.”

Some pronghorn remain on the ranch during the first few snows of winter. “They are usually digging and eating grass that we didn’t cut in August, or just jumping around in the snow,” Zoe says.

As winter snows pile up, the pronghorn move to even lower areas where there is less snow.

Zoe looks forward to the spring. When the snow melts and fresh grass grows, she’ll hear the pounding of hooves. And the pronghorn will pass through Trappers Point once more, following their ancient migration route.
