Lilith
There was so much in my past that could come back to bite me in the ass I had no clue where to even begin. Whatever it was, I needed to figure it out, and fast if I were going to get out of this. Not that I should even have to get out of it, considering I hadnât done shit to begin with.
I strolled through the small town, lost in my thoughts and ignoring the demons that called out to me or watched curiously. Countless hours had been spent in this old town when I was younger. In the days when I first came to the Surface, I had lived here, become one of them.
Many of the residents had changed over the years, hence the stares from everyone. My presence had become normal back then, now to see me in the street was more than enough to raise curiosity.
There were several still that called this place home though, and I hoped that one of them might be able to help me figure out where to begin. My first stop was an old crone that I had actually begun to grow fond of during my time here. She was eccentric and kind, something that I didnât have much of in my life.
Boba hadnât cared who or what I was. Or that I had just killed a shit ton of souls in my devastating rampage. Instead, she helped me focus on who I wanted to be from that point forward. Out of everyone in this life, I probably owed her more than anyone.
I turned down the walk to her cottage, smiling to myself for the first time in days as the overgrown flowers and herbs tickled my thighs. It was good to see that some things never changed.
Before I had a chance to knock, she opened the door, her crooked tooth and wrinkled skin a welcome sight as she ushered me forward. âWith these dirty rumors going around, I figured I would be seeing you soon.â
âBoba,â I embraced her fondly, taking in the gentle scent of earth and herbs that always surrounded her.
âTroubled one arenât you?â she pulled back and tutted her disapproval. âCome, nothing a cup of tea canât fix.â
I couldnât help but laugh, âBoba, tea might not be able to fix this one.â
âNonsense. The right cup of tea can fix anything. You just have to know where to look,â she winked at me before putting the teapot on the stove.
I took the seat that I always had at her small kitchen table, content to forget about everything for a few minutes and just watch her work in her kitchen. She ground up herbs and put them in cups, followed by a group of tea leaves. I noticed that her movements were much slower than they used to be and it hurt my heart knowing that she would eventually succumb to the otherside as so many had in my lifetime.
âBoba, do you feel okay?â I asked, noticing her hands tremble as she reached for the teapot.
