Story: The Story of the Ego
In order for the soul to learn about itself and to heal, grow, and expand, the soul chooses to experience a life incarnated in the third dimension. The realm in which the soul resides is a very high frequency, so high that a physical body exposed to such a frequency would cease to exist. In order for the soul to experience a physical life, it needs to project parts of itself into a lower density. The soul does this in stages, from the soul level down to the higher self, to the heart, and finally to the lower self (ego). Each progressive stage is denser and âfurther awayâ from the true, high vibratory energy of the soul (the Love That We Are). The soul projects down to the lower self the wounds it wishes to learn about and heal, and the energies of these wounds become stronger as their density increases.
The ego is our identity with physical reality. It plays an integral role in the soulâs ability to learn, play, and explore in the physical realm and it is through the ego that the soul connects to the physicality of what it wants to learn about. In the physical world our ego is given a name (such as âJackieâ or âPeterâ), and depending on what our soul came to experience, our ego is given free will to play with personalities, likes, and wants. Our ego might have a variety of desiresâfor example, it might like to wear flamboyant clothes, listen to classical music, or express itself through modern dance. How well we are able to listen to our hearts will determine if these expressions are in alignment with our Love (soul).
The egoâs job is to facilitate our physical experience: to navigate our basic survival needs (food, shelter, safety, procreation), to express our personality (traits, habits, likes, dislikes, wants, and desires), and to be a servant to the soulâs reason (or mission) for incarnating. As human beings, weâve been taught that the ego is also responsible for our self-awareness, health, self-esteem, and so on. It is true that the ego is helpful in navigating circumstances that may be questionable or dangerous to our physical, mental, and emotional bodies, but the ego should only act at the direction of the higher aspects of ourselves. This concept has been misunderstood and that has caused us to place blocks around our hearts. The heart (which communicates with the higher self and the soul) should direct the ego, not the other way around.
In our early years, family dynamics and culture can suppress the ways in which our heart directs our ego. In an effort to conform to societal pressures and in search of acceptance, the ego learns to usurp the heartâs direction. However, our lower self (the ego which commands our thinking-brain) thinks it needs to do a lot more work than what it was designed to doâit believes it needs to protect us! This is NOT its design.
